Did you know that African elephants have the longest gestation period in the entire animal kingdom?
It takes a whopping 645 days for a mother elephant to produce a baby elephant.
Compare that to an animal like the opossum, which has a gestation period of just two weeks.
What does this have to do with losing weight and getting in shape?
Well, a lot of over-40 men and women think getting leaner, stronger, and slowing aging is like the opossum’s gestation period when, in reality, it’s more like an elephant.
If you’re not willing to put in the work, the chances of you building your Ideal Body are unlikely.
It can also take a long time to birth your Ideal Body.
In that sense, you must have patience and continue to do the work.
You must respect the “gestation period” that comes with losing bodyfat and, as a result, reducing your risk of diabetes, heart disease, and certain forms of cancer.
Clients who are enrolled in our fitness-and-nutrition coaching programs have noticed a similar phenomenon.

So, what do we focus on when it’s all overwhelming?
Once again, focus on the fundamentals. For us, that means three things:
- Great coaching at every single interaction
- Hold every client accountable to your priority-one goal
- Continue to make sure everyone feels a part of the community as to not lose the “family-like” feel
That’s it. We focus on the basics.
Because, you see, what happens, if you start to throw in too many moving pieces, too many new changes, too many shiny objects, it distracts you from the basics, and you start to fail.
It’s a good lesson for your life in general, especially your health, now more than ever before.
Sometimes you take on too much, you try to do everything at once, and as a result, you see the main thing suffer.
You see that in relationships.
You see that in families.
You see that in work.
And you certainly see that in your health.
So, what are the basics of your health? It could be three things like:
- Getting four workouts in per week
- Journaling your food at least 80% of the week
- Sleep at least 56 hours per week
It can be fun to talk about "shiny things" like cool new exercises, fancy diets to follow, or the latest trend on social media; however, it's better to concentrate on the basics.
I don’t know a single client who eats mindfully, trains smart, and gets deep sleep, that doesn’t get results.
